Some patients may suffer from pain in the back or in the neck due to degenerative disc disease, work related accident or a motor vehicle accident in which trauma can cause pain to any portion of the spine. The trauma can be to the musculoligamentous area of the neck and back or to the disc which can be herniated as well as to the nerves themselves in the form of injury to the peripheral nerve or the brachial plexus which is a bundle of nerves that comes out of the spinal cord and forms a plexus before breaking out into smaller nerves. For pain management different types of injections can be performed with trigger point injections, epidural injections or transforaminal root injections. Sometimes these injections are not only therapeutic but also diagnostic.
